The South Carolina Tennis Foundation is proud to announce the launch of the Rex Maynard Scholarship Endowment, created to honor one of South Carolina tennis’s most dedicated and influential volunteer leaders.
For nearly five decades, Rex Maynard has served the game of tennis at the local, state, Southern, and national levels. His leadership, generosity, and commitment to others have helped shape tennis throughout South Carolina and far beyond.
Rex has served as President of USTA South Carolina and USTA Southern, chaired both the South Carolina Tennis Foundation and the Southern Tennis Foundation, and contributed his time and expertise through numerous USTA national committees. He helped establish the South Carolina Tennis Hall of Fame, founded the South Carolina Men’s Collegiate Championships, and directed the Palmetto Championships for decades.
His impact, however, extends far beyond the titles he has held.
Rex has encouraged generations of young people to pursue education, demonstrate good character and sportsmanship, serve their communities, and remain connected to the sport of tennis. He has led by example, freely sharing his knowledge, supporting fellow volunteers, and helping others discover meaningful ways to contribute to the game.
The new scholarship will be awarded to a graduating South Carolina high school senior and will recognize qualities that Rex has demonstrated throughout his life:
- Academic achievement
- Tennis participation and achievement
- Character and sportsmanship
- Extracurricular involvement and community service
Through this endowed scholarship, Rex’s legacy of leadership and service will continue to encourage and support young people for generations to come.
